With the imminent launch of the iPad Mini (or whatever it might be called) I thought I'd recount the story of our family iPad.
I bought the iPad for my wife last Christmas, secretly sure of the fact that I would be the real owner, that I would use it a damned sight more than her. It was a classic case of buying what I would like as a gift for someone else in the hope that I would get to use it.
In the intervening ten months I could probably count on two hands the number of times I have actually used it. And honestly, I've never had it in my hands for more than five minutes.
My wife, on the other hand, has practically bonded with it - and I mean that in both the physical and emotional sense. But why? Why have I not used this ultimate geek accessory?
It's simple. My brand of browsing and computer use demands heavy keyboard activity. I love typing. My wife browses... a lot! The iPad is perfect for her - she looks at a web page and clicks links and looks at other web pages. That's pretty much ninety percent of what happens on that iPad. Read. Click. Read. Click...
So. Would I recommend a tablet to you? Well the answer is quite simple. First off, decide what type of user you think you are... then just buy the tablet and hand it over to your wife and let that be the last of it.
